Alexander Sokolov (1941-2009) was a Russian sculptor. The Moscow Museum of Modern Art on Petrovka street presented a retrospective of his work called “I am”.
His favourite materials are wood, stone and metal, often used together, mixing the warmth of wood with sharp metallic instruments. But there is no violence in his art, only natural and harmonious forms.
Boris Orlov (1925-1981), a Russian painter and friend of A. Sokolov said about him: “Таков вот А. Соколов – лукавый платоновский человек, озорник и философ.” (A. Sokolov was playful, naughty and philosophical.)
