Russian Jokes

During the Soviet times, there was a very popular joke about an American spy who wanted to surrender to the KGB. In January 2011, days after the bomb blast that killed 35 people in a Moscow airport, in an attempt to denunciate officials refusing to assume responsibilities, V.V. Putin, then Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, recalled this joke to illustrated his comments.

"Человек пришёл на Лубянку и говорит:

- Я шпион, хочу сдаться.

Ему говорят:

- Вы чей шпион?

Он говорит:

- американский.

- Ну, тогда в пятую комнату.

Он пошёл в пятую комнату:

- Я американский шпион хочу сдаться.

- А у вас оружие есть?

- Есть.

- Тогда в седьмую.

Он пошёл в седьмую:

- Я шпион, хочу сдаться, у меня есть оружие.

- В десятую!

Он в десятую:

- Я шпион, хочу сдаться, у меня есть оружие.

- А средства связи есть?

- Есть.

- В двадцатую.

Он в двадцатую пришёл:

- Я шпион, у меня есть оружие, средства связи, хочу сдаться.

Его спрашивают:

- А задание-то у вас есть?

- Есть!

- Ну идите и исполняйте, не мешайте людям работать!".

"A man arrives at the Lubyanka (KGB) and says:

- I'm a spy, I want to surrender.

He was answered:

- Who are you working for?

He says:

- Americans.

- Then go to office n°5.

He goes to office n°5:

- I'm an American spy, I want to surrender.

- Do you have a gun?

- Yes.

- Then go to office n°7.

He goes to office n°7:

- I'm a spy, I want to surrender and I have a gun.

- Do you have communication equipment?

- Yes.

- Go to office n°20.

He goes to office n°20:

- I'm a spy, I've a gun, I've communication equipment and I want to surrender.

- Do you have a mission?

- Yes.

- Well, go and execute it, and don't disturb people at work!"
